BOY IN THE BOAT
'Boy In The Boat' is a show for young audiences exploring the theme of migration. Using two actors, the piece is a fantastical journey about a boy lost at sea, searching for a home. Alone, he tries to navigate his journey, with nothing to guide him but his magical ‘Home Detector’. Meanwhile, a lighthouse keeper, Lila, watches over him from her lighthouse & narrates his story.
On his journey, he encounters a number of characters; a greedy seagull, a fearful jellyfish & her babies & a wise ancient turtle. Each bring forth their own set of prejudices & we examine the theme of the acceptance of ‘other’ & how we treat those who are different to us. Tonally the piece shifts between comedy and pathos, but is ultimately hopeful when the boy eventually finds a home when he is welcomed by Lila and the audience. We use original music, movement, puppetry & narration as storytelling devices.
Target audience: 6+.
