MASS
Samuel Beckett Theatre, 2015
Mass was a large scale production I directed and devised with a cast of 9 examining the influence of the Catholic Church in Ireland. It took the form and structure of a mass service.
I devised it as one of my final projects in Drama and Theatre Studies, Trinity and it took place in the Samuel Beckett Theatre.
The piece explored pivotal moments in Irish history such as the Pope’s visit to Ireland in 1979, the Magdalene laundries, the clerical abuse that occurred as well as larger themes such as faith, sexuality, ritual and identity.
I tried to create a piece that merged art forms and that acknowledged the presence of the live audience throughout.
